Hottest New Small Cars for 2012 As Reported By Autotrader
The Veloster features the same two attributes that have powered Hyundai’s recent U.S. success: eye-catching styling and high mileage ratings.
Reviewers praise its quirky exterior design and its comfortable, upscale-seeming interior. Though styled as a coupe, the Veloster has a full-size third door on the passenger side for access to the not-too-roomy back seat. The four-cylinder 148-horsepower engine is rated at 28 mpg in city driving, 40 highway. The downside: Test drivers say that with its focus on high MPG, the Veloster fails to offer a peppy, fun-to-drive experience (like, say, a Mini Cooper).
The Veloster has one price level — $17,300 — but can range up to $18,550 with options like navigation and rear-view safety camera. The Veloster does not yet have crash test ratings.

The Sonata continues the modern Hyundai tradition of being competitive on every level, although it may not be a standout in any one area. It is less expensive than the comparable Honda and Toyota competition, but it has an engine that matches them in every way and an interior that is actually slightly nicer. The Sonata is a pleasure to drive and offers an ambience and sophistication I've never experienced in a Hyundai before. –Paul Hagger
The all-new Sonata is one of the best family sedans on the market. The new design is distinctive enough to set it apart from the competition without looking unusual. The car's interior is very clean with quality materials and simple, straightforward controls. With a fuel economy rating of 35 mpg highway and the elimination of an available V6 engine, I was pleasantly surprised that power wasn't lacking at all. The 200 horsepower 4-cylinder engine with the 6-speed automatic is all you need for most situations. But the best part of the Sonata is the amazing value. A nice-looking family sedan with plenty of passenger and trunk room, Bluetooth, navigation, automatic transmission and a 10-year, 100,000-mile warranty for $24K is an incredible deal. –Perry Stern

Curb APEAL
The top score of any car this year went to the Hyundai Equus, further proof that this Korean brand has made a successful move upmarket. The Equus competes with the likes of the BMW 7-Series. Lexus LS and Mercedes-Benz S-Class. the only other three cars to ever post the top APEAL score since the survey began in 1996. Owners especially liked the exterior design, storage space and entertainment features. We're fond of the Lexicon audio system and the standard iPad owner's manual. However, we find the styling plain and derivative.
Hyundai, Your Accent Has a Pleasing Ring to It! An article from the Wall Street Journal August 6th 2011.
Hyundai is thumping a lot of its competitors lately. The new Elantra compact outsold each of the Japanese small three (Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra, Honda Civic) in June, and the company's U.S. retail market share is up 0.7% in June, year-to-date, led by the all-star Sonata. Incentives on Elantra and Sonata are practically nonexistent; residual values and transaction prices are way up; and dealerships can barely keep the cars on the lot. Hyundai averaged 23 days' supply of cars in June, as compared with the industry average of 51. Click on the Wall Street Journal Button to read more
Hyundai Veloster (November 2011)
Hyundai is pulling a very neat trick with its Veloster. It's a slightly larger car inside than the Scion tC (and Mini Clubman or Honda CR-Z hybrid). Yet thanks to a very low 2,600-pound curb weight — 400 pounds less than the tC — it's said to get up to 40 mpg from its directly injected, 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. That would best Honda's CR-Z numbers without necessity of hybrid technology, and with the benefit of a bigger cabin. One oddity: Access to the interior is a bit quirky, with one door on the driver's side, but both front and rear doors on the passenger side. Remember that weight? Fewer doors allow a carmaker to reduce structural reinforcements, and that keeps down bulk. And a low weight allows an increase in fun factor — indeed, Hyundai is promising greater sportiness than its rivals. Can the Veloster "out-fun" a Mini? Hmm, we're not sure, but Hyundai is promising a tighter turning circle than even a base Mini Cooper and a sophisticated, buttoned-down-sounding suspension. Transmissions include Hyundai's first dual-clutch six speed (hopefully with paddles) or a six-speed manual. Pricing should be in the $20,000 range.

Hyundai Elantra
Hyundai Elantra Price: $18,445 Redesigned for 2011, the Elantra delivers a lot for the money. With its makeover, this well-rounded sedan is now more stylish and engaging to drive. The Elantra provides fairly nimble handling; a decent ride; a smooth, responsive powertrain; a well-finished interior; and a relatively roomy rear seat. It's also miserly on gas, achieving 29 mpg overall in our tests and 39 mpg on the highway. We expect this new model to be as reliable as the previous one.
Being that it is at the heart of new-car sales volume, the mid-size family sedan must delicately balance its attributes to appeal to hundreds of thousands of disparate car buyers. This sixth-gen Sonata does so masterfully. It offers the most standard horsepower in its class, with the segment's first direct-injection four-cylinder, and it gets the top EPA highway rating of 35 mpg. The optional and very responsive turbo four introduces the category to the downsizing concept: It makes more power than competitors' V-6s and achieves far better fuel-economy ratings, too. The swooping shape makes the Sonata best-in-class attractive, but it doesn't sacrifice on the very reasonably sized back seat and generous trunk. Despite having the lowest base price in its segment, the Sonata packs standard six-speed transmissions. And a high-quality interior. And standard Bluetooth and XM radio. It's very much a car of "ands." Still, it's not perfect. The electric power steering doesn't feel very natural; No longer simply great for the money, this latest Sonata propels Hyundai to 10Best glory for the first time because its greatness is undeniable.

The Hyundai Genesis sedan is designed to offer the luxury appointments of much more expensive cars, for less. The Genesis can be had with a 290-hp 3.8-liter V6, or a 385-hp (using premium fuel) 4.6-liter V8. Both engines send power to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission that features manual sequential shift capability. Mechanical safety features include traction control, stability control, and panic brake assist.

Hyundai, Top Insurance Industry Safe List
WASHINGTON -- South Korean automakers Hyundai leads the insurance industry's annual list of the safest new vehicles, used by safety minded consumers looking to buy a new car.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recognized 66 vehicles on Wednesday with its "top safety pick award" for the 2011 model year, the most-ever awarded by the Virginia-based group. The number was more than double the 27 vehicles selected last year.
Hyundai Motor Corp. received the most awards with nine. The awards, used in advertising to attract car buyers, bolster Hyundai as they attempt to build a larger foothold in the United States.
Hyundai's Genesis sedan, Sonata midsize and Santa Fe and Tucson sport utility vehicles picked up awards.
Hyundai said the award was particularly sweet for the Sonata, which also received the top score of five stars in the government's crash test program. The combination put Sonata "in a safety position unsurpassed in the industry," said John Krafcik, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America.

The Shining Star of L.A. Autoshow as reported on MSN
2011 Hyundai Elantra
Selecting this car for our top 10 created some internal debate — probably an ingrained reaction, the residual effect from years of saying, "Wait, you like a Hyundai?" But everyone who went to the Hyundai booth to see this elegant, fluid sedan, which admirably echoes the design successes of the Genesis and Sonata, changed their minds. There are of course more powerful cars at the show — the Elantra's 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine makes 148 horsepower and 137 lb-ft of torque — but the Elantra is yet another well-timed vehicle that lets us watch, in real time, the evolution of Hyundai into a class-leading automaker.
11/16/2010 Safest Cars in America as reported on MSN Family Sedan: Hyundai Sonata
The Hyundai Sonata is one of only two 2011 models so far (30 have been tested) to earn an overall five-star rating from the IIHS. "From stability and handling to crash results, it's an impressive package," says Mike Quincy, Consumer Reports' automotive specialist. The Sonata is equipped with six standard airbags, including side curtains both front and rear. Anti-lock brakes with brake assist and electronic brake-force distribution are also standard — along with electronic stability control, a safety feature that NHTSA reports has resulted in 35 percent fewer single-vehicle crashes and 30 percent fewer single-vehicle fatalities in passenger cars
